After three weeks of mostly unsuccessful attempts, during which I experienced numerous vibrational states every evening—sometimes for one or two hours—I changed my approach last night.
Instead of trying to make use of every successive vibrational state right after going to bed, I simply welcomed the first two spontaneous ones that came about 10–15 minutes after lying down. I clearly felt the usual light floating sensation, but nothing more. So after the second vibrational state, I decided to just go to sleep and let the others pass.
Too many attempts late at night don’t seem to be the solution, because I end up exhausting myself and getting nowhere in the end.
As a result, I woke up naturally a little before 5:00 a.m. this morning. I drank a bit of water but didn’t get out of bed. Upon waking, I felt a slight numbness in my head, like when you’re not fully awake, accompanied by a light vibration.
I decided to go back to sleep, telling myself that an out-of-body experience was possible, and that I would welcome any vibrational state positively, without putting any pressure or expectation on myself to actually exit my body.
For about an hour and a half, I drifted between drowsiness, brief wakefulness, and sleep, experiencing several series of vibrational states, mostly in my head, while my body remained asleep. I even caught myself refusing or canceling a vibrational state on purpose, choosing instead to sink deeper into sleep.
I moved around quite a bit in bed trying to find a comfortable position… on my back, then on my left side with pillows, then on my stomach without a pillow, and finally on my stomach with a pillow once I managed to fall into a deeper sleep (from around 6:30 a.m. according to my sleep tracker).
I was clearly in a lucid dream. I was in my kitchen, but not quite my real kitchen—it was slightly different. It must have been morning, because I ran into my partner and my daughter, who seemed to be getting ready to go somewhere. We exchanged a few words, but I had the feeling they couldn’t hear me and were ignoring me. In the dream, I even thought to myself, “Great atmosphere,” even though in reality everything is fine at home ;-)
Looking back, maybe they simply couldn’t see me. Then, suddenly (perhaps a few minutes later), I saw or imagined myself lying on my stomach with a light vibrational state, followed by a sensation of my entire body sliding horizontally from my feet to my head, as if I were gliding on a smooth surface. The sensation was very pleasant, like a release—subtle and gentle, and hard to describe.
I was then in the dark, but fully awake and conscious—inside the lucid dream, a mix of dream and reality. That’s when I realized I was out of my body. I believe I actually opened my eyes (I was wearing a sleep mask), and I began to see a scene from above, in a room that seemed different from the previous one. I could make out two people sitting at a table in color. I had the impression that these two people were my children, but younger than they are now.
I then managed to move a few meters by thought— for about 2–3 seconds—to get closer to them, before the experience ended abruptly and I woke up completely. It was 6:59 a.m.
Summary:
A very beautiful experience that I won’t forget. The advice from the AstralSchool group, as well as reading the book Lucid Dreaming and Out-of-Body Experiences: A Practical Guide by Michael Raduga, inspired me a lot.
The change in timing (doing the practice in the morning rather than at night), deliberately letting the vibrational states pass, and the intention of simply living the experience without forcing or expecting anything (a strong concept in Reiki) were probably the key ingredients for success.
I now have a clearer idea of the right mindset to adopt. Even though I didn’t move around much during this first out-of-body experience, I now know that moving by thought is simple—and incredibly powerful.
